Wicked Games

By Jill Myles / Genre: Contemporary, Romance / Rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (272 reviews)

Wicked Games

Abby Lewis never pictured herself on the survival game show, Endurance Island. She’s just not the ‘survival’ type. But when her boss offers her a spot on the show and the opportunity of a lifetime, she packs her bags and heads to the tropics to be a contestant.

Once in the game, it’s clear that Abby’s in over her head. The game itself is full of competitive, aggressive people, and no one’s more aggressive than sexy, delicious – and arrogant – Dean Woodall. Sure he’s clever, strong, good at challenges, and has a body that makes her mouth water. He also hates Abby just as much as she hates him. That’s fine with her; she’ll just ignore the jerk.

But the rules of Endurance Island are working against them. Abby and Dean are teamed up – alone – on the beach. It’s either work together, or go home. Stuck with no one else’s company but their own, they learn they do make a good team after all.

And that with just a little bit of kindling, the flames of hate can quickly turn to flames of passion. This book features enemies, lovers, enemies who become lovers, and lots and lots of tropical heat…

Dead End Job

By Ingrid Reinke / Genre: Women Sleuths, Mystery & Thrillers / Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars (46 reviews)

Dead End Job

A fun-filled tale of new beginnings, sudden endings and the lighter side of the daily grind.

After a professional and personal meltdown in Orange County, Louisa “Lulu” Hallstrom packs her things and returns home to Seattle. With her $80,000-a-year job firmly in the rearview, Louisa takes the first job available—an entry-level admin position working for a lazy, mentally unbalanced boss. In desperate need of an apartment, Louisa hooks up with an old college friend who has morphed into a slovenly, militant environmentalist with a horrifying lack of domestic skills and hygiene. Louisa, her love life in similar shambles, finds herself at the mercy of online dating and its resulting grotesqueries. Her bad luck is compounded when she finds the body of a co-worker and becomes a suspect, a misfortune that’s surpassed by another concern: She might be the next victim. The engaging, unwitting Louisa helps first-time author Reinke successfully capture the fresh style of a light, well-paced mystery, impressively rendered with interesting, multidimensional characters. Reinke’s humorous, witty voice is accessorized by easygoing and accessible prose. Despite a few imperfections—slightly contrived dialogue, for example—Reinke wisely refrains from getting too fancy with inorganic plot twists; instead, she simply lets the story speak for itself. Louisa is a funny, endearing, self-deprecating and, above all, relatable heroine, whom just about every woman can relate to as she navigates a turbulent life, with a few laughs along the way. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more soon from Reinke and Louisa.

A refreshing, humorous read that strikes a winning balance between chick lit and light mystery.

Sharc

It’s massive, it’s intelligent, it’s relentless and it’s always looking for its next meal or its next challenge.

Maxwell Baxter is intent on fulfilling his greatest ambition yet, and he is an ambitious man. He wants to build the largest floating aquarium in the world, an aquarium city, and fill it with all manner of monsters from the depths, the first being a presumed extinct Megalodon he has captured, a prehistoric monster shark currently only thirty-five feet long but destined to grow up to one hundred feet of raw, razor-toothed ravenous greed with extraordinary abilities to detect anything edible or threatening in the water for miles around.

In the midst of international financial negotiations to raise the rest of the money to complete his ARC, and with the Governor of California being entertained on his private yacht on his way to review the facility, the Megalodon escapes and begins to terrorize everything in the Pacific, ships and other sea creatures alike, no matter what their size.

Maxwell Baxter’s future rests on a knife-edge, and the Megalodon has a gigantic mouthful of them, each five inches long and giving it the capability to bite a small whale in half with one snap of its jaws.

With a Megalodon about, if you are thinking of getting back into the water, don’t flatter yourself – you’ll barely be a snack.

MOLLY’S MAGIC Problem Solving Children’s Picture Book (Fully Illustrated Version)

By Penelope Colville Paine / Genre: Pigs, Animals, Children’s eBooks / Rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars (22 reviews)

MOLLY'S MAGIC Problem Solving Children's Picture Book (Fully Illustrated Version)

Whisk away to the Emerald Isle for a lesson in creative thinking.

Molly is a clever pig. She can dance an Irish jig, balance a tin plate on her head, and catch a ball in midair.

But can Molly help rescue the O’Malley farm from its financial woes? That, thinks young Miles O’Malley, would take the talents of a magician.

Molly is no magician, but her great ideas for solving problems work like magic! This is the story of how Molly conjures carloads of tourists and sends them flocking to the rescue of the O’Malley family and their Seaside Tea Garden.

British-born author Penelope Paine has written this tale of creative thinking with humor and warmth. And Molly’s story is wondrously illustrated by Itoko Maeno, who has created meticulously detailed glimpses into the rural life of western Ireland-from the cozy O’Malley kitchen to the rugged countryside of County Mayo.

This story of a problem-solving pig teaches us all that adversity may sometimes be overcome with a special kind of “magic.”

On the Side: Low-Calorie Side Dish and Salad Recipes

By Joan Holcomb / Genre: Low Fat, Special Diet, Cookbooks / Rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars (48 reviews)

On the Side: Low-Calorie Side Dish and Salad Recipes (a Scrumptious Low-Calorie Recipes Cookbook)

I love salads, and side dishes. The difficulty I had when losing weight, however, was to find a salad dressing, or a salad or side dish, which was tasty but not loaded with calories. These dressings, saucers, side dishes, and salads are all under 250 calories per serving.

All recipes include calories, fat, fiber, carbs, and protein content per serving.

Important note: this is not a cookbook with zero calorie (or near-zero calorie) recipes. The very nature of these dishes and their ingredients mean that the calorie count will never be zero, or even close to it. Those looking for minimal calorie main dishes are advised to seek commercial preparations specifically made for very low calorie diets.

Also, these recipes are not necessarily low-carb. With healthy ingredients such as fruits and vegetables, they often include GOOD carbs.
