By Joan Gable / Genre: Contemporary Fiction / Rating: 3.8 out of 5 stars (65 reviews)

Summer of Firefly Memories (Loon Lake Series)

Imagine spending an entire summer in a cabin on a lake – simply because you can.

That’s exactly what Samantha McGreggor, a thirtysomething eco-journalist, does in SUMMER OF FIREFLY MEMORIES. She trades Arizona’s summer heat for Minnesota’s cool lake breezes by spending her summer at the same resort her family used to go to when she was young.

Her summer agenda – relaxation, beach reads, soul-searching, bonding with her three grown sisters.

Her concerns – she and her sisters haven’t been back to the resort since their parents’ death twenty years ago when they were all practically teenagers, and, well, they tend to act like emotional teenagers when they’re all together.

Her summer reality – fun in the sun, secrets, sibling rivalries, lost memories, new love, hope.

Shadows Gray

Sonnet Gray has problems, and not just those of a typical 18 year old. Her family is one of the Lost; time travelers who have no power over their journeys. Hopelessly old fashioned and yet more modern than most girls, Sonnet speaks several languages and takes care of her motley crew back home by working in a coffee shop and playing guitar. Over time, the Lost leave behind those they love and pick up new characters along the way. In twenty-first century America, Sonnet meets Emme, a Lost young woman with a questionable line of work, Luke, a mysterious photographer, and Israel, a young doctor . But no one can take the place of Sonnet’s sister, Rose, who was left behind as a baby in the fifteenth century. The ghost of her beckons from each time and place; but what’s real and what isn’t? Is Rose Gray trying to contact her before it’s too late?

A ghost story with a sci-fi, Gothic romance twist, Shadows Gray will keep you up at night, wondering: is the redemptive power of love enough to change history?

Naturally Up to 160 Calories. Everyday Delicious Treats!

Naturally Up to 160 Calories. Everyday Delicious Treats!

How much sugar can we eat a day?

This is the famous nutritionist Professor Marion Nestle’s advice:

How can we enjoy eating sweets without gaining weight or impairing our health? As a journalist, I’ve asked the famous nutritionist, Professor Marion Nestle, that same question in an interview. In her very interesting book “What to Eat”, she wrote that she loves to eat sweets and that she allows herself to eat 10% from her calorie intake as sugars (4 tablespoons a day). The daily calorie intake of an average person is 1,600- 2,200 calories. That means that everyone can eat a treat that has 160-220 calories everyday.
Of course you can eat a little piece of chocolate, but who can? A 160 calories piece is too small. As a woman who has to struggle with her sweet tooth, I started to invent treat recipes that were tasty and of sufficient size (for example, a standard-size muffin or two large cookies) and had up to 160 calories.
What’s the secret?
